Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the role of interfaith relationships in the contemporary political and socio‑cultural landscape of India. Marriages between adherents of different religions are extremely rare, accounting for only 1% of the Indian population (Pew Research Center 2021a). Nevertheless, they are prominently present in public debate, where they are portrayed often as a “threat.” The main aim of the article is to demonstrate the impact of the politicization of intimate relationships between Muslims and Hindus on the everyday lives of members of the India’s urban middle class. The article is based on ethnographic field research conducted in Delhi and Mumbai.
