Summary/Abstract: During his lifetime, Dr. Teodor Kikta (1912–2004) kept a low profile and remained an enigmatic figure. His reconstructed biography brings back to life and scientific circulation many fascinating episodes. His story began in Austrian Galicia in the Ukrainian family of a Greek Catholic priest. Pharmaceutical studies at the University of Poznań established him as a pharmacist working in the Second Polish Republic and German-occupied Poland. The subsequent formative stage of his career as an officer in the Polish Army, though unexpectedly interrupted, seemingly strengthened his loyalty to the Polish state. The work as head of the Information Department of Polfa Tarchomin pharmaceutical company, which lasted for two decades, was not necessarily a safe haven, but certainly a solid source of stability. It seemed to give him the push into historical research, although family tragedies may also have contributed to this, as they largely robbed him of the joy of life and excluded him from social life. Teodor Kikta went down in the history of science as a researcher of the pharmaceutical industry in Poland and co-initiator of the Pharmacy Museum in Warsaw. He left behind a rich scientific legacy and a good memory among those who knew him.
