Summary/Abstract: This paper presents a petrographic analysis of sandstones from Jazia Góra in the Opoczno Hills. 34 sandstones samples in ten sites (I‒X) were taken, and a detailed geochemical analysis of these rocks was carried out, together with the documentation of palaeoripplemarks on the surfaces of fossiliferous beds. The results of the analyses of the elemental composition of the sandstones and the oxide content according to the 1988 Herron classification made it possible to distinguish: ferruginous sandstones, subarcosites, litharenites and sublitharenites. The geochemical and sedimentological characteristics may indicate that these sandstones were formed in the Jurassic shallow brackish sea, which enveloped the crystalline core of the Holy Cross Mountains from the northwest.
