PHONOSTYLISTICS AND MORPHOSTYLISTICS IN THE NOVEL LARVA BY BISERA ALIKADIĆ

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to describe the phonostylistic and morphostylistic characteristics of the novel Larva by Bisera Alikadić. The phonostylistic and morphostylistic levels are first identified, then described, and finally analyzed. The presence of all stylemes of a particular linguistic-stylistic level cannot be guaranteed until that specific stage of analysis is reached. Through such a stylistic analysis, a methodological approach is offered—one that can also be applied to other texts of literary-artistic style. This paper should serve as evidence that linguistics and literature are not, and should not be, mutually exclusive. They are in constant correlation, interconnected even though they address different spheres. They coexist, nourishing one another. When delving deeper into the field of stylistics, it becomes evident that every styleme, which makes a given text what it is, carries stylistic information; it also becomes evident that meaning is not only inscribed and understood by the readership, but also by the language itself—through its adapted use. By exploring the phonostylistic and morphostylistic characteristics of Larva, this study simultaneously draws attention to the importance of stylistic analysis as well as to the significance of the mentioned novel. Ultimately, the goal is to create a complete stylistic representation of the work, while leaving room for future analyses of stylemes at other linguistic-stylistic levels.
