Summary/Abstract: The community service is a relatively recent contravention sanction in the Romanian legislation, but which has acquired an increasing importance in the sanctions applied for various contraventions. It has a more profoundly educational character compared to the other main contravention sanctions, being meant not only to punish, but also to correct the offender’s behavior, by performing an activity that is usually physical. Through the active involvement of sanctioned persons in various activities of public interest, the aim is to rehabilitate them and reintegrate them into society, giving them the opportunity to contribute directly to the well-being of the community.
