Summary/Abstract: This study is based on the results of a detailed analysis of The Mountain Wreath editions published between 1901 and 1950. The editions of Njegoš’s most fameous poem were construed chronologically, as per the time when they became available to the readers, and not as per a priori determined valuing criteria, such as literary-historic relevance or the grade of political-ideological (mis)use of Njegoš’s poetic heritage, which was especially obvious during the marking of the centenial of publishing of the first edition of The Mountain Wreath (1947). This study shall also give, among other things, the analysis of the causes and consequences of (professional, ethical and existential) challenges which the editors of The Mountain Wreath faced, especially in the situations when their scientific-researching competences were inversely proportional to the grade of their personal political suitability.
