Summary/Abstract: This study investigates and analyzes the forty-second verse of Surah Al-Qalam, particularly the expression { قٍٍ ساََ عنََ فُُشََكْْ ُ َ ْْوََم ُي يَ) { the Day when the shin will be uncovered), which has been the subject of wide debate among exegetes due to its theological, linguistic and rhetorical dimensions. The study proceeds from a framework of Qur’anic exegesis rather than kalām (theology). It adopts the analytical exegetical method by examining the verse in its various aspects, presenting the exegetical opinions, discussing their evidences and then comparing them according to the comparative exegetical method. The significance of this research stems from the sensitivity of speech concerning the Attributes of God, which requires the highest level of precision and scholarly rigor. This necessity becomes even more critical in the face of some hasty interpretations that have emerged in the modern era. The central problem of the study lies in identifying the various exegetical opinions regarding the “verse of the sâq”, examining them comparatively, determining which interpretation is most widely accepted among exegetes, and making a final judgment based on scholarly evidence. To this end, the study adopts an analytical and comparative methodology. The study reached several conclusions, most notably that the verse depicts a scene of the Day of Resurrection with its horrors and hardships. Although more than ten different interpretations of the term “sâq” have been mentioned, most exegetes have interpreted this expression metaphorically. Upon examining these views, the researcher concluded that the majority’s interpretation -that the “uncovering of the sâq” symbolizes the severity and dread of the Day of Judgment- is the most convincing. This conclusion is supported by the testimony of Arabic usage, strong linguistic evidence, as well as rational indications (such as the impossibility of ascribing corporeality to God) and textual indications (such as the contextual focus of the verse on the horrors of the Resurrection, rather than affirmation of a descriptive divine attribute).
