Summary/Abstract: In Islamic thought, politics is generally defined within theoretical frameworks grounded in morality, justice, and wisdom. Within this context, analyses of practical political applications have predominantly been limited to historical examples or juridical rulings. Such an approach has constrained the systematic examination of the political dimensions inherent in sacred texts and led to the emergence of an academic gap in the examination of the relationship between political thought and political action. This gap highlights the necessity for studies that revisit political narratives in sacred texts through the lenses of both classical and modern political theories, analyzing them within a framework that integrates theoretical and practical perspectives. A prominent example of this need is the Qur’anic narrative of Prophet Joseph (Yūsuf). The narrative in question reveals the rise of a prophet endowed with personal virtues to a political role, presenting a comprehensive model of political practice that encompasses areas such as crisis management, state organization, and social strategy. In this regard, it possesses the potential to establish an organic connection between political theory and practical political action. This study examines the story of Prophet Joseph in relation to the fundamental principles of Islamic political thought, with particular focus on concepts such as “the legitimacy of authority,” “balancing morality and governance,” “serving under non-Muslim rule,” and “strategic foresight in generating societal benefit.” The research aims to assess the relationship between political theory and political practice through the lens of this narrative. Methodologically, a qualitative approach has been adopted, employing thematic and conceptual analysis. Alongside exegetical sources, the texts of classical Islamic political thinkers have been comparatively studied with modern political philosophy, while the events, concepts, and discourses within the narrative have been reinterpreted from the perspective of political theory. It is considered that the study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the applicability of the narrative in the context of political theory and by establishing an original connection between classical political thought and Qur’anic references.
