Summary/Abstract: The article argues that in the works of Lech Witkowski, an outstanding contemporary philosopher of education, a theoretical approach that can be described as a conceptual turn comes to the fore. The text is an attempt to reconstruct and develop this position using the tropes of contemporary humanities. Additionally, the text seeks to justify the existential and political importance of orienting education and research toward conceptual work in the context of the condition of human imagination. The author does so in several steps. After a short introduction, he first builds a context concerning faulty educational and research practices that damage individual and social imagination. Next, he discusses the postulate of the explosive impact of intellectual work in terms of awakening and clarifies the concept of imagination. Against such an outlined background, he reconstructs the theoretical turn towards conceptual thinking. Then – using the analyses of, among others, Gaston Bachelard, Barbara Skarga, Gilles Deleuze, Ernst Cassirer, Hans-Georg Gadamer, and Mieke Bal – he characterises the idea of concept more broadly, indicating how it can work for the imagination within the framework of the conceptual turn (groundbreakingly implemented by Lech Witkowski).
