Summary/Abstract: The increased interest in numismatic currency, especially ancient coins, has led to an increase in the number of counterfeits and to the improvement of counterfeiters in the use of new counterfeiting technologies.The counterfeiting of numismatic currency has a negative social resonance, producing a feeling of distrust in the authenticity of counterfeit currency, but also a feeling of indignation for the damage caused to national cultural values of particular importance for Romania or for humanity. Numismatic currency are those collector currency or currency intended for collection or those currency with circulating power that are not part of the current issue, representing a commemorative moment, but which can also be introduced into currency collections. The counterfeiting or alterating of numismatic currency with circulating power, listed or delisted can be classified as crimes provided for articles 244, 253 paragraph (3), 310 of the Criminal Code or as crimes regarding the regime of movable national cultural heritage, provided for articles 80, 81, 88 of Law No. 182/2000, as appropiate.
