Summary/Abstract: The Diocese of Arad was founded on the territory to the north of the Mureș river, comprising the Arad, Bihar, Békés and Csongrád counties in Hungary. Its predecessor was the Diocese of Ineu, from the times before the Turkish invasion. It was reinstated as the Diocese of Ineu-Arad in 1695, after the Great Migration; after the Karlovci Peace it is mentioned as the Diocese of Arad, being a part of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci. In the Archive of the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts in Sremski Karlovci, a description of the Diocese of Arad dating from 1797 was recently discovered. The description was elaborated in person by the bishop of Arad Pavle Avakumović. The paper presents the statistical data for the clergy of the Diocese of Arad. Along with the name and surname, the following information is given in the text: geographical area (administrative unit), proto-presbytery, parish, rank and title, year of ordination, name of the bishop who performed the ordination, moral conduct, spoken languages, age, marital status and number of children.
