Summary/Abstract: The article aims to discuss the image of Hitler’s Germany presented in the pages of the Unzer Bialistoker Ekspres newspaper in 1936–1939. Published in Bialy stok, the daily is discussed as an exemplary Yiddish press organ of the local Jewish community reflecting the level of knowledge about the events unfolding in the Third Reich, attitudes towards them, and the way they were reported on among the statistical Jewish population living in the eastern areas of the Second Polish Republic. It is an important issue to study since, on the one hand, it reflects the level of awareness among local Jews of the situation of their coreligionists in Germany and makes it possible to trace any locally observed involvement in helping victims of Nazi persecution; on the other hand, it can help dispel the myth, unfortunately still present in Polish consciousness, of the Jewish population’s lack of support for the defensive initiatives taken by the Second Polish Republic and the unwillingness of this social group to cooperate with the Polish authorities in preparing the country for the impending cataclysm of world war. In addition to shedding light on the aforementioned issues, this article is intended to clearly show that the Jews of Bialystok were aware of the danger coming from the Third Reich and that they were in fact the social group which cared the most about stopping Hitler, precisely because they were closely following the situation of the Jewish population in Germany.
