Summary/Abstract: Many modern analyses of the nature and consequences of the fourth industrial revolution warn of the possibility of a serious blow to employment as a result of the comprehensive penetration of new technological achievements. Their most important axes of manifestation are automation, robotization, digitalization, digital transformation and the development of artificial intelligence. In this sense, with the present development, we aim to trace the development of economic thought regarding the justification of the causes and conditions for the occurrence of technological unemployment, on the one hand. On the other hand, to channel the results of empirical studies proving or rejecting the possibility of the manifestation of technological unemployment. To achieve this goal, a literature review is made of various theoretical concepts regarding the causes of changes in employment, as well as a presentation of results from a number of empirical studies in this scientific field.
