Summary/Abstract: Textbooks by S. Vujanovski and A. Mrazović served as foundational literature for language teaching in Serbian reformed schools within the Habsburg Monarchy for decades. Despite their long-standing use, these textbooks appear to remain unresearched. This paper aims to highlight their significance for subsequent Serbian grammar books from the late 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, focusing on their orthographic rules. Orthographic rules of S. Vujanovski and A. Mrazović are, above all, analyzed in relation to Vuk’s principle “write as you speak”. Additionally, the paper draws attention to other characteristics that these grammars and orthographic manuals share with later linguistic works.
