Summary/Abstract: Human Resource Management (HRM) has evolved into a pivotal organizational function, increasingly recognized for its strategic relevance in achieving sustainable competitive advantage. Amid rapid transformations in the business environment spanning technological, demographic, economic, and societal dimensions HRM faces multifaceted challenges that necessitate strategic and adaptive frameworks. This review paper aims to systematize existing theoretical knowledge by offering a comprehensive synthesis of the historical development, conceptual paradigms, and contemporary trends in HRM. Special emphasis is placed on the shift from administrative to strategic HRM roles, as well as the influence of emerging phenomena such as Industry 4.0, HRM 4.0, and Society 5.0. Through an exploration of current challenges, including the digitalization of HR processes, evolving workforce structures, and the demand for new competencies, the paper underscores the imperative of redefining human capital management practices. This review paper uses a qualitative methodological approach based on a secondary analysis of relevant professional and scientific literature in the field of HRM. Ultimately, HRM is portrayed as a dynamic and interdisciplinary field, the understanding of which requires continuous engagement with both theoretical advancements and environmental shifts.
