Summary/Abstract: In the first part of my text I discuss Antoni B. Stępień’s distinction between cognitive and about-cognitive activities, proposing a closer definition of about-cognitive activities and introducing a distinction between pre-about-cognitive and post-about-cognitive activities. In the second part I analyze Stępień’s conception of epistemology in the context of Alvin Goldman’s distinction between individual and social epistemology, aiming to show how Stępień turns out to be a unique representative of individual epistemology. In the third part I attempt to link some of the observations made by Stępień to two issues of social epistemology: the problem of knowledge concealment and the question of the nature of collective beliefs.
