Summary/Abstract: The main subject of research of this study is the unrealized project of Mitić’s commodity store, which was designed by two architects – Philipp Schaefer and Miladin Prljević. Planned to be built in Slavija Square, a very busy area of the city centre, it was supposed to be a kind of visual benchmark of the modern metropolis and to symbolically mark the beginning of Kralja Milana Street, thus making a conceptual whole with the Palace Albanija at the end of the street. Therefore, the analysis of the architectural solution is imposed as a dominant focal point of the paper, along with morphological and stylistic determinations, volumetric potentials, the detection of models, as well as the explanation of its importance and position in the urban processes of the capital of the given period and the creation of a recognizable appearance of the city. As a representative of its time and sociocultural evolutionary shifts, Mitić’s store testifies to the need to shape new contemporary spaces, using inventive ideas, materials, and constructions.
