Summary/Abstract: Archbishop Józef Bilczewski’s pastoral letter (dedicated to young people and teachers), was a significant contribution to the ideological development of Christian education in Poland after regaining independence. It had its emphases in the educational work of schools, regardless of the educational authorities’ preference for national or state education. At the difficult moment of rebuilding Polish statehood, it was intended to educate young people about the importance of religiosity based on their relationship with Christ, while also fostering patriotic feelings and cultivating national traditions. The foundation of Christian education should be active participation in the Church and values such as courage, justice, and selfless love in the service of others. As confirmation of his views, the Archbishop cited the Christian attitudes of national heroes.
