Summary/Abstract: The article addresses early diagnosis and intervention for developmental delays in children and emphasizes the role of specialized services and personnel in supporting recovery and development. It presents the results of a pilot project initiated in Bucharest, which aimed to identify the prevalence of developmental delays in children aged 1to 3 years in selected kindergartens, including ASD. Children, parents and professionals participated in the study, using systematic behavioral observation (SBO) and semi-structured interviews. The results show that out of 613 children screened, 81 received a special control referral, with 4 cases at potential risk for ASD. In addition, 8 children were diagnosed with autism. The prevalence of autism in children aged 1-3 years was 1 in 51. Although exploratory, these results provide a model of good practice for future screening campaigns at a national level. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and intervention for developmental delays. It argues for a vigilant community and emphasizes the importance of national-level efforts to effectively address these issues.
