Summary/Abstract: Bulgaria’s planned entry into the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) has the potential to support long-term economic growth. This study examines how EMU membership could affect Bulgaria’s gross domestic product (GDP) in both the short and long run. The analysis focuses on several main channels through which the euro can influence growth: lower transaction and currency-conversion costs, removal of exchange-rate risk, stronger monetary policy credibility, higher foreign investment, deeper financial integration, and better access to cheaper capital. Evidence from other countries that recently adopted the euro shows that these factors often increase productivity, trade, and investment. For Bulgaria, EMU accession is expected to raise GDP by improving investor confidence, attracting more capital, and making the economy more efficient. Some short-term costs may appear, such as price adjustments, structural reforms, and temporary inflation pressures. In the long term, however, EMU membership is likely to speed up economic convergence, raise potential output, and strengthen stability. The overall benefits will depend on progress in governance, competitiveness, innovation, and labor-market reforms. In general, the expected impact on GDP is positive, although the benefits may vary across different sectors and regions
