Summary/Abstract: The article recalls an interesting publishing project from 1820. Walenty Śliwicki made portraits of distinguished Poles, which were then printed on lithographic presses, while Aleksander Chodkiewicz took care to attach biographies to images of deceased heroes. Some he wrote himself, but he also invited other authors to collaborate. Of the announced forty portraits, twenty-eight were published by 1828. Fifteen were accompanied by biographies. Tracing the press from this period allows us to better understand the intentions of the authors, the first assessments of their work and the reasons why the initiative was not completed.
