Summary/Abstract: The presented article is analytical in nature. Its subject is the educational thought of Fr. Alexander Pechnik (1854–1935), taken in the aspect of its theoretical and historical specifi cs. The presented research refers to a selected publication output of the pedagogue from 1875–1907, when he was a junior high school teacher in successive schools, located in Krakow, Nowy Sącz, Tarnów and Lwów. The purpose of the article is to present educational thought relating to the realities of a junior high school in Galicia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It attempts to present the following issues: a biographical sketch of Fr. Alexander Pechnik, his views on secondary school education and upbringing, and the role of the teacher in education.
