Summary/Abstract: Aristoxenus’ Elements of Harmonics is a multi-phased project that demonstrates the autonomous and independent science of its activity, by developing, and often dismissing, earlier musical methodologies, and applying Aristotelian scientific methods to the subject. His project synthesizes a plethora of musical speculation over the centuries into the peripatetic tradition. His Pythagorean and peripatetic formation creates the conditions for a brilliant presentation of harmonics that dialectically amasses the otherwise disparate musical traditions into one system, into one science of harmonics as a whole.
