From the Manuscript of Karel Napravnik: Musical Dictation

Summary/Abstract: The ma­nu­script Mu­si­cal Dic­ta­tion by Czech mu­si­cian Ka­rel Na­prav­nik (1882–1968), from his fa­mily ar­chi­ve, re­ve­als him as a me­ti­cu­lo­us met­ho­do­lo­gist de­di­ca­ted to per­fecting mu­si­cal dic­ta­tion tec­hni­qu­es. De­spi­te be­ing writ­ten in 1951 when sol­feg­gio te­ac­hing in our re­gion was mo­der­ni­zing, its con­tents of­fer en­du­ring va­lue for to­dayʼs te­ac­hing prac­ti­ces. Its emer­gen­ce pro­vi­des a cru­cial link in un­der­stan­ding the de­ve­lop­ment of mu­sic pe­da­gogy, de­mon­stra­ting that Na­prav­nikʼs pe­da­go­gi­cal con­cepts are still highly re­le­vant. In fact, many mu­sic edu­ca­tors who fol­lo­wed him of­ten in­te­gra­ted his ide­as, even wit­ho­ut know­led­ge of this ma­nu­scriptʼs exi­sten­ce.
