Summary/Abstract: This article is written to commemorate the ninetieth anniversary of the founding of the English-Yugoslav Children’s Hospital for the Treatment of Osteoarticular Tuberculosis (OAT) in Sremska Kamenica. From its very first day, this hospital has stood as a symbol of friendship and cooperation among people of different nations, backgrounds, and customs, united by a common cause. The hospital’s successful operation and its remarkable results in treating ill children are lasting testimony to the noble dedication of Dr. Katherine MacPhail, who, as a young physician, undertook a journey through the war-torn regions of Europe. A surgeon, diplomat, innovator, and humanist, Dr. MacPhail was above all a doctor who primarily treated children, offering them not only medical care but also a more meaningful experience of life. The main building of the English-Yugoslav Children’s Hospital for the Treatment of Osteoarticular Tuberculosis was constructed in 1934, based on a design by architect Anatoly Ilyich Hmara. Dr. MacPhail conceived the idea of founding the hospital and led the complex process of obtaining all the necessary approvals and documentation. Decorative features also follow Hmara’s design and are skillfully balanced with the architectural integrity of the main structure. An auxiliary building with a rectangular base, designed for the purpose of a laundry room, was built at the same time as the main building. A memorial bust of doctor Katherine MacPhail was unveiled in 1984, in front of the hospital’s main entrance.
