Summary/Abstract: In biblical studies, knowledge of biblical Hebrew is essential for rigorous exegesis, yet many scholars and readers rely exclusively on translations, thereby assuming the risk of mediated interpretations. This article examines how the Hebrew particle nā’ has been interpreted and rendered in various Romanian versions of the Bible. The first section offers a historical overview of traditional and modern grammatical and exegetical perspectives on the meaning of the particle. It then evaluates recent hypotheses by Ahouva Shulman and Bent Christiansen, who argue that nā’ functions as a propositional discourse marker indicating politeness and an intent to persuade. These interpretations are tested against five representative biblical passages, assessing the fidelity of Romanian translations to the original meaning of the biblical text. The study proposes the interjection ia as a functional, semantically and pragmatically suitable Romanian equivalent, while explicitly limiting this proposal to the passages analyzed, rather than presenting it as a universal solution for all occurrences of the particle. This paper thus contributes to redefining translational principles for biblical text, in the Romanian context, to a deeper understanding of the nuances of Biblical Hebrew.
