Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on museums as institutions with a vast spectrum of tasks, ranging from entertainment, and through their research, teaching, and popularisation, they become depositories of memory and places for archiving testimonies of the past. As Krzysztof Pomian wrote, museums are exhibition windows and mirrors of societies, expressing their interests, aspirations, knowledge, preferences, and skills. With the development of film art, cinema also secured a place at this specific exhibition. The Museum of Cinematography and the National Centre for Film Culture, located in Łódź, are institutions documenting and archiving the memory of the history of cinema in Poland, placing it in a broad political and social context.
