Summary/Abstract: The Arta Vie Association is the project of private collectors who wish to share their treasured objects with the public. We collect, conserve, and recondition ethnographic pieces, which we intend to exhibit. It is a private endeavour through which we can experiment with unique ways of highlighting heritage and facilitating communication between the archaic and the contemporary. An important focus is the collection of folklore and memories from rural and urban areas concerning past customs and lifestyles, as well as the promotion of popular crafts. To date, we have created two collections of memories and folklore, from the village of Morlaca, Cluj County, and from the village of Lemniu, Sălaj County; an exhibition of archive photographs, in collaboration with the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania; an exhibition of muruni / cununi (traditional wedding wreaths/crowns); the first public display of the association’s collection of icons painted on glass; and four workshops with folk and contemporary artists. The ultimate goal is to open our own museum—incognito, as the ethnographic cultural centre in Morlaca—where we can offer artistic residencies. The Ethnographic Cultural Centre involves the reconditioning of a traditional house, typical for the area, and furnishing the interior with the recovered ethnographic pieces. It will be a versatile space, adaptable to exhibition needs, whether for contemporary art or the staging of a custom, and it can offer the public both the atmosphere of a traditional home and the opportunity to engage with arts and crafts not found in official museums.
