Statistical Analysis of the Population Aging Process in Iaşi County, between 1992 and 2021

Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of population aging is a topical issue in research on the size, structure and sociodemographic dynamics of the population. This process has been constantly increasing in Romania since 1990, being influenced by demographic, social and economic factors.The study aims to analyze the evolution of the demographic aging process at the level of the administrative-territorial units of Iaşi County (including an analysis of the Iaşi Metropolitan Area) through statistical indicators specific to this phenomenon such as: the share of the young population, the adult population, and the elderly population in the total population; the population aging index; the demographic dependency ratio; the aging of the active population; the dependency ratio of the elderly. The data used in the research are taken from the Population and Housing Censuses carried out in 1992, 2002, 2011 and 2021. Through cluster analysis (multivariate analysis), the formation of clusters of localities will be highlighted depending on the degree of similarity between them. The results obtained can form the basis for the development and implementation of local and regional public policies with the aim of increasing the quality of life of people affected by this process: the aging workforce, the elderly, the elderly from vulnerable groups.
