Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to make clear the purpose, fundamental, and methodological basis of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of news programmes in Slovak most influential televisions. The research furthered by agency VEGA is realized at the Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Philosophy of Catholic University in Ružomberok in years 2006 – 2008. The base of this article is to explain the formation of the system of categories and to define them briefly. The think tank defines the quality or no quality of the news programmes in the assertion of mentioned categories on these news programmes.
