Summary/Abstract: Presenting research findings is part of the discursive practices that every researcher should acquire. This activity aims to report on the researcher’s scientific work, in order to engage with peers within the academic community and, in some cases, to share it with the general public. It represents a true discursive endeavor that can take various forms and mobilize the researcher across several scientific discourse genres. In the university context, these genres, each with their own distinctive characteristics and conventions, are generally consolidated during the doctoral training program as forms of academic writing. In this article, we examine one genre of research dissemination discourse, namely the PowerPoint (PPT) presentation. Firstly, we shall outline some theoretical frameworks that help define this genre, which is often used to accompany oral communications during academic events. Secondly, we shall present the methodological framework and corpus of an ongoing study that seeks to identify discursive practices in the Romanian doctoral context. Thirdly, we shall briefly describe part of the corpus, consisting of PowerPoint presentations produced by PhD students from five doctoral schools, as well as the analytical grid developed for a comparative study of this multidisciplinary corpus. This grid can be applied both within a single discipline and across different disciplines. Finally, we shall test this grid by presenting the results of an intra-disciplinary comparative analysis of two PPTs written in Romanian and belonging to the doctoral field of medicine.
