Summary/Abstract: Aim of the study: According to UNICEF, transport exclusion affects an increasing number of Poles, especially people living in small towns, the elderly, the worse off and the disabled. The lack of basic means of transport makes access to education difficult, especially for people who want to pursue education far from their place of residence. The lack of public transport forces children and young people to use car transport offered by family, friends or neighbors. Children and youth excluded from transport cannot fully use their potential, which was the reason for undertaking research on the topic of transport exclusion. The main objective was to learn about the impact of limited access to the public transport network on the educational decisions of young people living in the Polish-Belarusian border area in the districts of Biała Podlaska and Włodawa. Material and methods: Quantitative strategies and a survey questionnaire prepared by the researchers were used in the research due to the fact that no standardised measurement tools were found for the aforementioned research problem as of today. The research covered 170 students aged 15–17 from the Biała Podlaska and Włodawa counties Lublin Province. Research results: The research results analysis shows that some of the surveyed students made their decision to choose a secondary school taking into account access to public transport and possibility of commuting to school. The existing public transport network does not meet the majority of surveyed students, their needs and expectations. It may come as a surprise that a very small number of students take part in extracurricular activities, which may indicate limited access and reduced educational opportunities. Conclusions: The research results showed some of the reasons for the influence of the accessibility of the public transport network on the educational decisions of young people attending secondary schools, living in the Polish-Belarusian border zone.
