Summary/Abstract: This paper is based on the poetic oeuvre of the Canadian poet Leonard Cohen, analysing and interpreting his poetry while establishing connections between his work and that of renowned poets such as Federico García Lorca, William B. Yeats, and T. S. Eliot, without neglecting Cohen’s relationship with the art of music and his contemporaneous singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Throughout this study, various interpretations of Cohen’s poetry will be examined, linguistic, stylistic, thematic, and ideological, focusing particularly on two of the central motifs in his creative universe: love and death. These two themes stand in opposition yet also complement each other, appearing as the two sides of the same coin. The main objective of this paper is to highlight the fundamental characteristics of Cohen’s artistic production, identifying the similarities and differences between his work and that of the aforementioned authors, through descriptive, analytical, and comparative methods.
