Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a limited corpus analysis of emotive language used in CNN’s climate and weather reporting. The present case study employs critical discourse analysis to explore how natural phenomena are framed as emotionally charged crises through the lens of Martin and White’s Appraisal theory (2005) and figurative language devices. The articles included in the analyzed corpus cover extreme weather events, including winter storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and extreme heatwaves. The analysis explores implicit lexical devices that evoke emotions such as insecurity and fear. Findings reveal the role of readers’ emotional engagement through the strategic ritual of emotionality in reporting environmental crises.
