Summary/Abstract: This article aims to identify the limits of the “Islamic novel” concept within a theoretical framework and to provide a comprehensive definition of the “Islamic novel”. The religious-themed novels written to date have enabled the concept of the “Islamic novel” to enter the literary discourse. However, “the religious-themed novel” does not necessarily mean that it is “Islamic.” Islamic epistemic framework requires that the structural features of the novel, as well as its content, be shaped by an Islamic perspective. There has been an increase in the number of religious-themed novels in Turkish literature since 2000. Among these novels, some address religious issues but do not reflect an Islamic perspective. This demonstrates the need to distinguish between the concepts of “the religious-themed novel” and “Islamic novel.” This article discusses the concepts of “religious-themed novel” and “Islamic novel” for academic reasons. The definitions of “Islamic novel” in literature and various expressions used as synonyms for the term “Islamic novel” are discussed. A theoretical discussion of the concept of the “Islamic novel” will provide insight into which novels should be utilized by research fields such as psychology, sociology, and politics when making assessments about Muslim individuals and societies. In this context, the concept of the “Islamic novel” is being reconceptualized by considering the structural characteristics of the novel as an art form. This article aims to establish the theoretical boundaries of the concept of the “Islamic novel” and to rectify the reductionist and inaccurate approaches to the concept.
