Problems Related to the Study of the Slavonic Cyrillo-Methodian Sources in the Works of Bonyu Angelov (Based on Data from Fund 93 in the Scientific Archive of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and from His Publications)

Summary/Abstract: The objective of this article is to present the problems in connection with the study of the Slavonic sources about the life and work of Cyril and Methodius, which are developed in the documents from Bonyu Angelov’s private archive, kept in the Scientific Archive of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Fund 93. The study is based on the materials in archival units 22, 95, 96, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103, 112, 113, 114, 115, 118, 119, 184, 194 of inventory 1 and 30 and 32 of inventory 2 of Fund 93. Publications by B. Angelov dedicated to the same problems are used for comparison purposes. In parallel with the review of his views on the topics raised, the current state of research thereof is outlined, which allows for comparison and evaluation of their development, as well as for a clearer highlighting of the contribution of the Bulgarian scholar to this development. B. Angelov’s research on the manuscript tradition of the main Slavonic Cyrillo-Methodian sources is presented, as well as on the problems of reconstruction the alleged text of a source that was not available to us and on the attribution of the sermons considered to be works of Clement of Ohrid. In the archival documents used, the researcher’s attention in the development of these problems is focused respectively on the Short Vita of St Cyril the Philosopher (Assumption of Cyril), the Hymn for St Clement of Rome and the Eulogy for Sts Cyril and Methodius.
