The Developmental Stages of the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius: Towards a Preliminary Periodization

Summary/Abstract: The article examines the developmental stages of the European Cultural Route “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” offering a preliminary periodization of its evolution over the period 2011–2025. It traces the historical, cultural, and institutional processes that have shaped the established network for its management, highlighting its role in preserving and promoting Cyrillo-Methodian heritage across Europe. The study situates the route within broader debates on cultural heritage preservation and promotion in the context of the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes Program. By outlining key phases of development, the author provides a framework for further research, comparative studies, and strategic planning across the five priority areas of the Program: scientific research, educational activities, cultural tourism, cultural heritage and collaborative cultural and artistic initiatives.
