The Cult of St John the Exarch of Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: The article examines the issue of the canonization and cult of one of the most famous Old Bulgarian writers from the First Bulgarian Kingdom – John the Exarch, considered one of the closest to Tsar Simeon scribes. His official function in the Bulgarian Church is examined in detail. John the Exarch is one of the few Preslav scribes with a church cult. The facts of this cult are being tracked and an attempt is made to explain the different dates under which his church memory appears.
