Summary/Abstract: The official annual reports of the Government of the Kosovo Vilayet, known as the Kosovo Salnamas, can be considered the equivalent of today’s official gazettes within the administrative and legal framework. They encompass a wide range of thematic content related to social life, including education and language rights. These rights are documented through official notes on the use of the mother tongue, or mother tongues, within specific administrative, governmental, and territorial boundaries, specifically within the Kosovo Vilayet. During the Ottoman administration, the Mitrovica region was part of this Vilayet. Thanks to Ottoman archival sources, it is possible to trace the continuous official status of the Bosnian language in Mitrovica during that period. For the purpose of this research, historical and analytical methods have been applied to conduct a detailed analysis of the content of the Kosovo Salnamas, with a focus on examining the sociolinguistic status of the Bosnian language in Mitrovica.
