Summary/Abstract: The present study aims to examine the presence of women within the upper structures of the academic hierarchy at Babeș‑Bolyai University during the period 1959–1980. Although women had been incorporated into the teaching and research staff as early as 1919, following the reorganization of the University of Cluj on Romanian foundations, their share remained limited throughout the interwar period, with the institutional percentage remaining below 15%. Moreover, during that timeframe, only two women attained the highest academic positions, earning the title of full professor, while the majority remained at the levels of teaching assistant and assistant lecturer. The situation, however, changed somewhat with the establishment of the communist regime and the restructuring of the educational system. Female presence in academia increased, and this was also reflected at Babeș‑Bolyai University. Our analysis focuses on assessing the proportion of women who held the positions of associate professor and full professor at the Cluj‑based university between 1959 and 1980. The study also investigates the share of women within the faculty body, highlights the faculties in which they had the opportunity to advance, examines women’s access to different levels of the academic hierarchy, and their involvement in administrative positions at the institutional level.
