Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 15th century, brothers Peter Tharnok and John, originally from Banat, from the noble family Măcicaș (Macskási) of Tincova, settled in Transylvania. They constituted an important domain here, with their main estates located in Hunedoara County. After their death in the early 16th century, conflicts over inheritance broke out among the descendants of the two brothers. Beyond the quarrels between the two branches of the family, most disputes took place between the children of Petru Tharnok and his wife Elena: Ioan Tharnok, Caterina, Eufrosina, and Ana. The conflict between the siblings involved lawsuits, reconciliations, and violent situations, which degenerated into attempted murder, prompting King Ioan Szapolyai to confiscate the properties of those involved and donate them to Benedict Bozay. Even though they eventually retained their estates, the members of the Măcicaș family continued to dispute ownership of these estates. The dispute would only be completely resolved in the first half of the 17th century, following a division between the descendants of Ioan, Petru Tharnok’s brother.
