Summary/Abstract: The article presents the notion of unlisted heritage as an integrated part of cultural heritage, especially important for preserving the cultural diversity of different communities in Romania. The chosen subject is approached through the lens of historical urbanism, the authors’ field of activity. After the introduction, in which the current context of built heritage is established, the article is organised in three parts (I. „Official / unofficial” built heritage, II. Historical urbanism as a tool for identifying and monitoring unlisted heritage, III. Case study) in which legislative aspects and key-word definitions are covered, as well as a presentation of tools for identifying and monitoring unlisted heritage. Furthermore, the case study of Șoarș commune in Brașov county is relevant both for displaying the results of the urbanistic audit of the built environment, as well as for stressing the negative impact of the widespread loss of vernacular heritage, particularly on the settlement morphology / structure and traditional housing patterns. Finally, possible measures for conserving and protecting one of the particular categories of cultural heritage, the unlisted one.
