Summary/Abstract: The article reveals the main functions and features of the work of punitive and repressive bodies of the judiciary in Soviet Ukraine. The activities of such repressive structures as the People’s Court, the Revolutionary Military Tribunal, the All-Ukrainian Emergency Commission and the Supreme Court were studied. Based on the study of central and departmental regulations, attention is focused on the tasks of punitive and repressive bodies to curb anti-Soviet manifestations among the population. The main scientists who researched this topic were singled out. Soviet and modern Ukrainian researchers are singled out. Among the Soviets we can single out M. Skrynnik, A. Khmelnytsky and D. Suslo; I. Usenko, A. Useinova, V. Egorova, M. Demida were singled out among modern Ukrainian scientists. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that the modern judicial system of Ukraine has a number of shortcomings and needs to be reformed. Thus, the author identified the main features of repressive structures and studied their functioning in the period from 1918 to 1937. Which makes it possible to understand the structure of the work of punitive and repressive bodies of this period. This article shows the analysis of the judicial system at different stages of its development. Thus, the activity of the People’s Court and the decisions made by the court are considered. Each sentence was subject to immediate execution, so it was almost impossible to avoid execution. In turn, the decisions of the All-Ukrainian Emergency Commission were not subject to appeal. If the commission has made a decision, it is correct and cannot be appealed. The repressions of the All-Ukrainian Emergency Commission were replaced by the Supreme Court, which began to work under a single judicial system. It is important to prevent punitive and repressive manifestations in the judicial system of the Ukrainian state. Therefore, addressing the functioning of the Soviet punitive and repressive bodies of the judicial system in Ukraine will help to develop mechanisms to prevent the emergence of punitive and repressive signs in any part of the court system of Ukraine.
