Summary/Abstract: Drawing on the work of scholars like Meighan (1981) and Apple (1982), this paper explores the social dynamics within schools, including the tension between teacher autonomy and standardized testing pressures. It further discusses the changing role of educators, transitioning from a "sage on the stage" to a facilitator in student-centred learning environments. This paper also explores the multifaceted role of educators in the contemporary social context. It argues that a sociological perspective is crucial for understanding the complexities of teaching and learning. This paper highlights the growing responsibilities of teachers, encompassing fostering critical thinking, promoting collaboration, and instilling social responsibility in students, and examines the societal view of teachers, emphasizing their role as agents of socialization and the expectations placed upon them to uphold ethical standards. The emphasis is also put upon the importance of considering sociological perspectives in teacher education and policymaking. By understanding the intricate relationship between education and society, we can work towards creating more supportive and empowering environments for both teachers and students.
