HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE FORMATION OF MODERN MANAGEMENT

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the study of the historical prerequisites of the formation of modern management, in particular, the importance of studying the historical patterns of the development of management in order to better understand the modern trends of its development is emphasized. The main historical forces, namely economic, social and political, which affect the activities of the organization and, accordingly, management, and the manifestations of their influence are given. The content of the main periods of development of management (ancient, industrial, period of systematization and information) is systematized; the main results of five managerial revolutions (religious-commercial, secular-administrative, production-construction, industrial and managerial) are given and identified; the substantive characteristics of the main schools of management (scientific, administrative, human relations, behavioral, quantitative) are revealed, on the basis of which the main historical patterns that influence modern management are determined. The main modern additions to management are established, namely: systems theory, the concept of related circumstances and quality management. It is also determined that modern management is formed both under the influence of historical patterns of development and the influence of modern challenges and opportunities. Based on the results of the study, a model of the formation of modern management was built, which takes into account the main factors of the influence of historical development, including the formation and development of management practice and theory, the definition of the role of the employee as an object of management, the technological and informational development of society, the development of the production process, the complication of the process division of labor, as well as today’s management challenges and opportunities, namely: strengthening of globalization and internationalization trends, digitalization of social life, growth of human needs and development of his interests, transition from traditional to «green economy». The most significant trends of modern management, in particular, the transition to «technocratism» and increased attention to behavioral and social aspects of management, and their characteristics are indicated.
