Summary/Abstract: Currently, more than a third of the national territory in Bulgaria possesses the status of a protected area as it falls within the European ecological framework “Nat ura 2000”. It is therefore not surprising that many farms are located on land with a protected status. The study focuses on agricultural producers from protected areas who sell their products directly, and the subject of the analysis is the valuation of the food products they produce in the context of certain European environmental policies. The text focuses on the following questions: who are the subjects of valuation and what is their motivation, why is valuation a strategy, what kind of social action can it be described as and who is it aimed at; are the values instrumentalised for the purposes of valuation a shared cultural phenomenon?
