Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the research attitudes towards children employed by ethnographers after the Second World War. The author distinguishes five types: the child as part of a broader research problem, as an object of research, as an active participant in research within a wider context, as a full-fledged subject of research, and as a co-participant in their own culture. The source material consists of interviews, observations and diploma theses collected over the years during fieldwork conducted by staff and students, and archived in the Bronisława Kopczyńska-Jaworska Ethnographic Archive of the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Lodz.
