Summary/Abstract: Currently, the regulations on counteracting money laundering and terrorism financing (AML/CFT) constitute an extensive and coherent system. The AML/CFT system is crucial for ensuring both systemic and individual security, and the effectiveness of this system requires international cooperation. Over the years, subsequent legal acts modifying the AML/CFT system have been issued at the EU and national level. The recitals of EU legal acts indicate that the idea behind the issuance of subsequent legal solutions is to improve AML/CFT methods. The functioning and development of legal solutions concerning AML/CFT issues are supported by international organizations, including the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). This article provides a historical perspective on the AML/CFT issue. This paper will discuss the history of EU legislation.
