Modern Surnames of the South of the Volyn Region Motivated by the Dialectisms of Ukrainian and Belarusian Polissya

Summary/Abstract: The article is centred on analysing surnames of the south of the Volyn region motivated by the dialectisms of the north dialect of the Ukrainian language. The most productive groups of surnames derived from the speechful lexical units are described. It is established that lexical units characterising a person due to the appearance and psychological peculiarities or behaviour dominate among surname stems of dialectic origin, which is determined by a great diversity of the dialectisms of this lexical-semantic group.
