Summary/Abstract: Aim: The purpose of the article is to present the approach to defining Innovation Center (ICs) and to identify the resources and competences necessary for providing pro-innovation services. The analysis also includes the conditions that must be met in order for ICs to obtain the status of an accredited unit. Methodology: The study employed a desk research approach, which included analysis of strategic documents and legal regulations. The choice of research method was justified based on the nature of the phenomenon being studied and the availability of secondary data. It also examines the documentation of calls for accreditation of ICs at the national and regional levels, as well as reports and applications of institutions applying for support within operational programmes. Results: The analysis revealed significant differences between the national and regional accreditation systems, both in terms of formal and substantive criteria. Common elements include requirements concerning experience in providing services for SMEs and human resources. Differences in approaches to certification, R&D infrastructure, and customer focus were also identified orientation. Implications and recommendations: The results indicate the need to harmonise accreditation criteria and better adapt requirements to the potential of ICs in different regions. It is recommended to strengthen elements related to service quality and cooperation with the R&D sector, as well as simplify procedures at the national level. It thus provides a source of knowledge for institutions responsible for innovation policy and for innovation organizations themselves in the process of improving service quality.
